The story of the woman found dead in Isdalen near Bergen, Norway in November 1970 has been told through countless articles, a documentary, and a podcast. The body, found by two young girls and their father out on a Sunday hike, had been exposed to strong heat and had considerable burns. The labels on her clothes had been removed and trademarks scrubbed from items at the scene. When police located her suitcases three days later, they found more of the same: clothes without tags, cosmetics without labels. The investigation also turned up a
You explored Schulman via a FOI request to the FBI but didn't get much of a response I believe they said the FBI archives had moved to a physical storage location.
You could ask about Rieser and Juva-tex and who in Norway sold those products in 1970. It could be Schulman was attending trade fairs not major retailers. But he'd have to sell a lot to make up his plane fare. Norway, South America and Europe was a strange territory for a man to sell female face compacts. How did he demonstrate the product - on his hand?
I did find better references some years ago. Possibly his own obituary. But this links Schulman to Bliss where it says he was President and not just Export Manager. I suspect it was named Bliss after his wife. It may be his wife or her dad owned it and he started as the export manager. Previously he worked as export manager in the 1940s with Don Juan Co - another cosmetics company which can be tracked via legal cases where they had disputes with workers. Familysearch shows him in South America with a very clean shaven face. Perhaps he demonstrated the Juva-tex face compacts himself. His brother Julian the concert violinist was at the Expo in Japan in 1970 where you would have imagined Joseph should have travelled to sell his cosmetics.
There was also a Paris Trade Fair in 1970 whch can be found on a Pathe where there was a woman who matches the description of the Isdal woman. If you pause the video at 1.46 you see 3 women. One with what looks like a wig. One with ethnic clothing and another woman on the right. The woman with the ethnic clothing had a pony tail. You need to watch it very carefully - and pause it. She is my Isdal Woman suspect and/or possibly the American Woman from Seattle in 1970 Bergen police evidence - I call her Valentine. I have repeatedly asked Pathe about the cost of the HD version but it is too expensive for me. Perhaps NRK could pay for it.
This reminds me of the Jennifer Fairgate story. A woman was found dead in an Oslo hotel, seemingly murdered but the door was locked from the inside. Her clothes also had no tags. Some people think she was a spy.
These cosmetic items (especially because of the logo) remind me of some brands of Eastern European origin, like Dzintars or Biba.

Thanks, David! Do you have any data to suggest Schulman owned and/or worked for Bliss International Corporation?

Yeah, there are lots of similarities! That case was covered in the second episode of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries Vol. 2.”
